Mulan Movie Review

My name is Edward. I'm Sifu Chuck's 9-year-old son. I saw the Mulan movie (© The Walt Disney Company) and thought it was very unique. You might think it was based on a book but the movie was based on a real event! This is the first animated movie I have seen that is based on a Chinese historical event over hundreds of years ago!

Mulan, a clumsy young woman, learns that her father will be joining the Chinese army and secretly takes his place. She cuts her hair and pulls it into a traditional Chinese soldier's bun. She is followed by Mushu, a tiny dragon sent by Mulan's ancestors. Mushu, trying to help Mulan fit in, unintentionally puts her in a fight. Captain Shang trains Mulan to be a soldier and throughout the training there are moves resembling
Wu Shu. Mulan becomes a very good martial artist by training hard and helps Captain Shang to defeat the evil invader, Shan-Yu at the end.

I have been practicing Wu Shu for 4 years. The discipline and stretching in Wu Shu has helped me in school and in sports. I really enjoy seeing authentic Wu Shu in movies.

There are some historical inaccuracies in this movie but it is a movie and it was very enjoyable for me and my family.
